Ensuring Video Capture Failover
The description is valid for software version 2.11.0 and newer.
Since 2.11.0 version, the Capture module supports two approaches to ensure input reception failover.
Cycle URL Usage
Backup with the the Cycle URL function.
Advantages
- This backup scheme does not require any additional modules to work.
- Only one input URL is connected at any given time thus saving input traffic when using limited connections.
- Cyclic search of available sources.
- Sources list management without having to restart the module.
Disadvantages
- This mode is supported only in Webcast, IPTS and NDI capture modes.
- You cannot switch between different types of sources, such as SDI and IPTS.
Multiscreen and Failover Switchers Usage
Since 2.11.0 version, the Capture module adds a “SIGNAL NOT PRESENT” auxiliary packet to ANC Data, which allows:
- Multiscreen module to activate the No Signal alert for a window.
- to monitor the No Signal status through the Multiscreen client application using the Show ANCs function.
The Failover Switchers function can be set to change the input settings of modules that use the output of the Capture module to use the signal from another Capture module.
Advantages
- The scheme allows switching between different types of sources, such as SDI and IPTS or RTMP.
- Visualisation of system status and signal presence.
- Flexible alerting and notification by Email.
Disadvantages
- This redundancy mode requires two simultaneously running Capture channels and the Multiviewer module to monitor Capture status and trigger switching actions.
