Preparing X-keys XK-12 to Work with Prompter

To control the web application Prompter, the hardware controller's hotkey combination emulation mode is used.

MacroWorks Programme

MacroWorks 3.1 software is used to set up emulation or load script to X-keys XK-12.

Commands sending from the hardware controller to the Prompter web application is possible in two ways:

  • Software Mode - commands are transferred through the running MacroWorks 3.1 application. In this mode the controller interacts with the MacroWorks application, which already sends the necessary commands to Prompter. The disadvantage is the need to add MacroWorks 3.1 to autorun and have it run in the background. Also, additional configuration manipulations will be required from the client. Commands can be sent to a specific application, for example, Google Chrome. However, this can also be a disadvantage, as in this case it is impossible to switch to another browser quickly.
  • Hardware Resident Mode (recommended) - commands are once stored in the controller's memory when configuring it, and then the controller emulates the behaviour of the keyboard on the USB port. The controller works out of the box and no additional settings are required. However, in this mode the controller's work will be the same in all applications (you can consider this a advantage).

Presets

Downloading the Preset

Configurable X-keys to work with the Prompter web application:

  • Download the preset file to your local computer.
  • Start MacroWorks.
  • Switch the mode: Mode→Hardware Resident Mode.
  • Load the downloaded preset via the menu: ‘’File→Load script‘’.
  • Select File→Write to device to write the script to X-keys.
  • Test the controller with Prompter application.

Changing the Preset

To change the preset, open the Layout tab. Double-click on the required button to enter the editing mode.

  • The top area is where you enter commands that will be executed when the desirable hardware button is pressed.
  • The bottom area is where you enter commands that will be executed when the button is released.
  • Use the pause button to pause recording of commands.
  • Use the File→Write to Device command to write script.
